IF IT IS A NON-EMERGENCY:
“Call SEA TOW, SEA TOW, SEA TOW,” on VHF Channel 16
EXAMPLE:
”SEA TOW, SEA TOW, SEA TOW, this is the Vessel (name) calling SEA TOW.” Repeat this (3) times. If no answer, check radio connections and settings and try again. Do not tie up Channel 16 as this is a distress frequency only. If contact is made, the SEA TOW operator will move you to his working channel. If, for some reason, we do not respond, you may check with the Coast Guard as to the operator in the area or call his office direct via the Marine Operator. Check to see what channel the Marine Operator uses in your area.
Be prepared to give your position as accurately as possible. Start by giving us a geographical position relative to the nearest landmark such as “about 1 mile south and 2 miles offshore of the Lake Worth Inlet” With this information, we can dispatch our nearest vessel to start heading to your location. Next, you will be asked to give an exact position, if possible. If your vessel is equipped with GPS or Loran, you will need to have it warmed up and ready. Pass your exact position upon request by the SEA TOW operator.
Please be patient! With radio channels so crowded, it is not always easy to copy your transmissions. Distance will also play a part. All calls will be handled on a priority basis. A licensee could be involved in a Mayday rescue and take a little longer. Please be understanding and patient. During high volume days, we may be slower in our response but remember, MEMBERS DO HAVE PRIORITY.
SEA TOW operators will look for your member sticker on the side window of your vessel. Please display it with pride and have your member card on board the vessel!!!
Should you solve the problem and get your vessel running before our boat arrives, please notify SEA TOW immediately so that we can alert our Captain & have him respond to the next vessel in need!
